It has been raining hard for a week in Calgary. Cathy and Winky have put in a lot of effort to organize their wedding, but they forgot to plan for the bad weather. A day prior, Winky phoned every place I provided him on the list and none of them were available. He finally phoned Calgary Zoo, with a very pricey photography fee, he got in. Cathy and Winky are very urban and modern people, zoo was the last place on their mind. Surprisingly, there were no rain on their wedding day, except gorgeous clouds and hot sun! Zoo however, turned out to be one the best locations that I have ever worked at….with great varieties. The wedding parties were constantly entertained by different animals…made the photo shoot fun and joyful. Their Wedding photos turn out to be so different from their urban and modern engagement photo. To see more, visit Yueko Image Blog

Calgary Wedding Photographers JT Images presents Lily & Joe, whom we photographed last month here in Calgary. Their wedding was a blast!! I hope you like the photos.
Laura & Mike are one of those couples when you first meet them and you say to yourself, “yup… these 2 totally meant for each other”. I remember Laura emailing me for the first time and telling me about her wedding plans. The most interesting thing was the location of her and Mike’s wedding. It is a place where her and her family used to always go to for family trips. She said that I probably haven’t of heard this place called Waskesiu Lake in northern Saskatchewan. Well, I actually had. As a matter of fact, I have only been to SK twice before in my whole life and both times it was to go to Waskesiu Lake. So, I was thrilled at the possibly of going back to a place I never thought I would go back to. Especially to shoot a wedding for a bride who had sentimental reason for getting married there.
When Ryan and I arrived in Waskesiu, we were excited at the natural beauty of this little resort town. We thought, wow, they sure made it easy for us! On the day of the wedding, we were ready to rock. The prep took place in cabins close to each other and Laura had chosen an outdoor area right by the lake for the ceremony. The “aisle” was a nice long path nestled between trees and shrubs. We had decided before hand that we would shoot on the pier and breakwater. I was the perfect location to get some shots at the most famous landmark in Waskesiu Lake.
The wedding was intimate considering there was a decent turnout. Most of the guests were from Calgary of course and the best part was, they all liked to party! The MC was quite funny, speeches were excellent and Laura and her brother performed one of my all time favorite Eric Clapton hits, If I Could Change the World. After dinner, there was lots of dancing and lots of drinking!
Congrats Laura & Mike! Ryan and I had a GREAT time covering your wedding. It was such a huge pleasure to get to know everyone in your family and most of your friends. We will never forget all the great people we met.
Aminder & Jatinder had an amazing 3 day wedding celebration full of traditions, food, color, emotions, energy and lots of family. I love photographing Sikh weddings here in Calgary. I have many friends who are Sikh so, even though I may stick out a bit, I always feel welcomed and feel like I am a part of the family. After 3 days, I kind of wished there was more, because I actually start to miss all the people I had met.
The first day was Aminder’s henna day and it was quite calm. It was the second day where things got more fired up. What I experienced could probably be best described as a song battle in the street. Kind of like a rap battle if you know what I mean. It was very, very fun to watch even though I didn’t understand a thing. Some of the words were translated to me later and they were much more “aggressive” than I thought it would be. But not in a bad way at all. After many of the different traditional nuances that day, we had the big wedding day to look forward to the next day.
The Gurdwara is a place of worship for the Sikhs. Everyone and anyone is always welcomed, no matter what religion you practice or the color of your skin. The best part is they will always feed you too. The ceremony was traditional as usual with hundreds, if not thousands of photos, shot between Ryan and I. Once the ceremony was complete, Aminder and Jatinder were whisked away in a beautiful old school Rolls Royce. We headed to downtown Calgary to photograph the wedding portraits.
When we got back to Aminder’s house, they groom and the groomsmen had to pay their way into the house for the official ring ceremony. This is also the ceremony where the bride’s parents give her away to the groom. But before they could get in, there would be some negotiation. The bridemaids did not really let up from their asking price that was over $10,000. When negotiations turned sour and the boys had enough, they attacked the girls with silly string, but the girls had answer for that. It was quite crazy and it was the first time I had experienced something so crazy! My camera got splashed with water too. Good thing Nikon’s pro bodies are weather sealed. Eventually the boys had to pay serveral thousand dollars to the ladies, who then split it with all of the girls in Aminder’s family.
The reception took place at the Magnolia in NE Calgary. The most memorable moment was when Aminder’s little brother could not contain his emotions of his sister departing the family home to live with Jatinder in Seattle.
Aminder and Jatinder, thank you so much for having me be a part of your big wedding celebration. It was a true honor and a great experience. I really felt like part of your family after 3 days and everyone treated us so well. We couldn’t have asked for better clients with better families than yours. Good luck in Seattle and don’t drink too much Starbucks.
Britni and Eric’s wedding at the Calgary Glencoe Club was our first wedding of the year. Ryan and I couldn’t have asked for a better couple and wedding to start the year off with. Britni and Eric are huge dog lovers, Eric is a dog trainer, so it was fitting that they would have their wedding ceremony at an off leash park. They chose Tom Campbell’s Hill Natural Park that also provided a great view of downtown Calgary. Of course the day started off with the prep for both bride and groom. We met up with Eric at one of his groomsmen’s condo near Stampede Park. There we found the boy buzzing with excitement for the day and soon shooters of tequila were lined up to get themselves going. When we were done there we met up with Britni and her girls at her parent’s house in Harvest Hills. Of course their place was a buzz with excitement as well but no shooters were found here. Britni looked absolutely gorgeous when she got into her wedding dress. She looked stunning and we couldn’t wait to photograph her.
When we got to Tom Campbell’s Hill, we found ourselves riding on a golf cart to the ceremony location, which was a little further in from the road. Britni arrived in an SUV limo in grand fashion and soon the ceremony would begin. We stayed at the park to do some of our photos of them and wedding party before heading downtown to shoot some more. None of us will ever forget how a downpour of rain crossed the street and then dumped on us. That was one of the craziest weather phenomenons I have ever experienced. It went from no rain to a full on downpour! And course there’s the story with the security guards telling us we can not take pictures on a public sidewalk. We easily won that argument.
Britni and Eric surprised their guests with a Chinese Lion Dance at the reception which was held at the Glencoe Club. The rest of the night was quite the party and we had a great time documenting it all. Sonia Ulmer and her team from Enriched Events did a spectacular job making sure the day went smoothly.
Congrats to Britni and Eric. Your wedding was fabulous!! Thanks for having Ryan and I be a part of it. You both make a great looking couple and I am sure your future human kiddies will be just as good looking!
